During this long month of November I've been getting into the Christmas spirit by reading various books set during the Christmas period. Christmas books aren't normally my go-to books, but to make up for my lack of Christmas spirit last year, I've decided to hop into the world of Christmas books in 2021. Here are a couple of recommendations and some honest opinions.
Books I finished
A surprise Christmas wedding
Now where do I start on this book? It was a really good read and I loved the slow burn romance. We follow Lottie on her journey of healing after being dumped a couple of days after her boyfriend proposed to her. They tell people they split amicably.
During the present time Lottie works at a lake district estate and is the events co-ordinator. A sexy new groundskeeper has moved in next to her and things are looking up. That is, until the ex shows up with his new fiancé and they want their wedding at the estate. Lottie understandably has a lot of emotions during this meeting, but keeps her cool.
Now I'm not going to spoil the whole book, but I will say I disliked the ending as it was not to my liking. While I was reading my partner had to put up with some blasphemous language, but overall it was an enjoyable book and I read it super quick.
A Cornish cream tea Christmas
This book is part of a series but can be perfectly awesome standalone. It feels like the perfect festive story. For me it was an epic read during a difficult time.
It was a delightful story with likeable characters, Christmas festivities and to top it all off it's set in the picturesque backdrop of Cornwall. Hana Swan's job as an
eco-consultant took her to the cornish village of Porthgolow.
I think the only downside was the amount of storylines but I liked the mystery.
DNF - did not finish
Rag and bone Christmas
I couldn't finish reading this one as I dislike the main character Sally too much. She seemed at the beginning to be strong but Sally cares more about a horse than her family or wellbeing. Then the main guy who is meant to be the love interest feels forced. The pacing is all wrong and I couldn't get into it.
Festive books are always fun to read at this time of year, so if you have any other recommendations leave them in the comments!
