Shaley has an amazing and creative bookstagram account, and I'm sure she inspires a lot of people with her creative and beautiful pictures. Shaley also writes a lot of book reviews and posts regularly on her stories, keeping all of her followers updated on her reading. Shaley reads and reviews books of varying genres and shows passion towards reading. I wanted to speak to Shaley about her amazing account and how she comes up with the ideas behind her fantastic pictures.
Hi Shaley, thank you for talking to me today about your amazing bookstagram account. The creations you make with your books are amazing, how do you come up with your ideas? Thank you so much! I would say my ideas come from whatever is going on in my life at the moment. This summer I did a lot of playground shapes, a slide, a swing, a seesaw, I was taking my son to the park nearly every day so playground equipment was on my mind! The week my family went to the beach I created waves, me diving into a pool and created a small pool. The holidays are also full of inspiration; they are definitely my favorite shapes to create! Your creations are done with such amazing detail. How long on average does it take you to set up for your pictures? On average I would say an hour! If it’s a really big shape, sometimes more. I can only create my book shapes during my son’s naptime because he loves to tear them down! Do you have any other creative hobbies? Yes!!! I love to write and have written two novels in the last two years. I have hopes to be a published author one day but it is a long process and something I am continually working towards! Fingers crossed! As well as your amazing pictures, you post a lot of book reviews too, which are great to read. Would you say you have a rating system? Yes, I definitely use a rating system. A one star means I really didn’t like it. Two stars means it just wasn’t for me. Three stars means it was just ok. Four stars, which I probably use the most means it was good and I enjoyed it. Five stars means it was amazingggggg and I loved it! Would you say you have a favourite book genre to read? I love to read thrillers! I love not knowing what will happen and closing the book feeling like my mind has just been blown! Thrillers really keep me engaged with the book and I read them quickly because I can’t wait to find out what happens! You’re currently a brand rep for a small business, novel wicks. Is shopping small important to you? Yes, shopping small is very important to me. My brother owns a small business so I know how much work and heart small businesses put into their products. I also absolutely love Novel Wicks products and the owner is the sweetest! It’s easy and fun being a rep for a business/product you truly love! What have been your top 3 books from 2021? That’s such a hard question! I loved Under the Whispering Door, Chasing the Boogeyman and A Face for Picasso! What would you say is your favourite thing about bookstagram? The people!! 100% the people on bookstagram are the best people!! Everyone is so kind and sweet, I’ve never had a bad interaction with someone on bookstagram. It’s nice to be part of a community that supports you and roots for you. I sometimes wish I had found bookstagram much sooner than I did because it’s been such a positive outlet in my life the past year.
