Songs to listen to while reading the ACOTAR series

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

This blog post will contain mini spoilers for the entire series, please read at your own risk.

A Court of Thorns and Roses has taken Bookstagram by storm. Seeing as though it's so popular, I thought I would give some music recommendations that I think fit perfectly while reading the series - perfect accompaniment for your inevitable reread of the series!

The Night We Met - Lord Huron Perfect reading scene: when Feyre and Rhys meet on Calanmai, Fire Night. This meeting is bittersweet and it is reflected on throughout the rest of the series. This song embodies the emotions felt by both Rhys and Feyre as it repeats ‘take me back to the night we met, when the night was full of terror […] when you had not touched me yet.’ It is just so hauntingly beautiful and is very fitting for this particular moment in their timeline.

Seven Devils - Florence + The Machine Perfect for when you are reading towards the end of the first book when Feyre is Under the Mountain. It is a chilling song so fits perfectly for the chilling scenes that occur. It is an empowering song and it’s exactly the kind of empowerment you wish for Feyre to have during her time against her enemies.

Bleeding Out - Imagine Dragons Perfect for when you are reading the penultimate chapters in the first book. The absolute agony that is captured by the singer’s voice in this song portrays the feelings of those final chapters perfectly. This is a befitting song for when our heroine is battling against everything, both physically and mentally.

Willow - Taylor Swift Perfect to listen to when Feyre is introduced to the town house. The town house is a place I want to live (the whole of Velaris is to be honest) but Willow also represents the beginning of Rhys and Feyre’s relationship. ‘Lost in your current like a priceless wine’ is definitely how Rhys feels towards Feyre in A Court of Mist and Fury. The whole song reflects his unsaid feelings and him revealing the town house to her shows his kind hearted nature all the more.

Meet Me on the Battlefield - SVRCINA Perfect for reading A Court of Mist and Fury. If there’s one thing that is abundance in this series, it’s battles. I feel this song is very in tune with how the whole of the night Court feels towards their enemies but also how Feyre feels towards her enemies.

Don’t Let Me Go - RAIGN Perfect for reading the last few chapters of A Court of Mist and Fury. This is such a haunting song, it gives me goosebumps as does Feyre and Rhys’ relationship. I think the tempo of the song reflects the fast pace of the last few chapters but also ties in well with all of the revelations faced in the book.

Missile - Dorothy Perfect to listen to while reading A Court of Wings and Ruin, when Cassian and Azriel defend Feyre against the sons of the Autumn Court. Those two personify missiles, so it is only fitting that this song reminds me of them. It is such a fitting song, I can vividly imagine the both of them turning up on the ice, ready to defend Feyre.

How Villains are made - Madalen Duke Perfect for reading any scene that involves Nesta, particularly A Court of Wings and Ruin. We knew Nesta was cold beforehand, but in ACOWAR? I’ll say this, I would not like to be on her bad side. This whole song personifies how her character develops when undergoing the changes she faces in ACOWAR.

Give Up - Birdy Perfect to listen to when you’re sat thinking about Elain and how neither of her sisters give up on her when she struggles with adapting to her new surroundings.

Til Forever falls Apart - Ash, FINNEAS Perfect to listen to when you are reading about the ultimate battle in A Court of Wings and Ruin. I can vividly imagine all of the Night Court singing this (especially Cassian and Azriel) as part of their motivational speeches before the battle. It holds such emotion and is a really powerful song.

I could write pages and pages about the different songs that fit each scene but I’ll leave it there. These books capture a variety of emotions and feelings and there’s no specific genre that would be fitting for the entirety of the series. I hope you take a few of these songs and add them to your ACOTAR playlist and hopefully it will make you feel even more emotion when you read the series. Be prepared to feel overwhelmed, especially if you think of Cassian while listening to Til Forever Falls Apart.
